  18. I received the complete package of Kermit 95 a few days ago, 
  19. but as yet have had no luck in getting the K95dial program 
  20. to work with dial-up connections.

  22. Before I explain what doesn't work, let me list the things 
  23. that DO work:

  25. - Starting K95 directly and using CONNECT to talk
  26.   to my modem. I can then dial out.
  27.  
  28. - Using K95dial to connect via Internet/TCP-IP
  29.  
  30. My problem looks like this:

  32. Duting Installation, I discovered that my modem was not one
  33. of those known to Kermit. I just picked one more or less at
  34. random. When I try to use the 'Quick' facility to dial out, 
  35. Kermit tries to initialise the modem and fails. So, I can
  36. see a few possible ways out:

  38. - I try to find out if one of the supported types will do
  39.   for me. But, how can I do this? Assuming I find one, how
  40.   can I inform Kermit about the change?
  41.  
  42. - If I cannot find a match, there would seem to be two
  43.   further possibilities. Either I use type UNKNOWN, but this
  44.   results in a whole bunch of error messages with dial
  45.   failure, or I use type USER-DEFINED. However, to do this,
  46.   I have to input (somewhere) a whole bunch of SET MODEM
  47.   commands and this has evidently nothing to do with K95DIAL
  48.   but with the main K95 program instead.

  50. I must confess to being totally confused. I can't figure out
  51. the connection between K95DIAL and K95 and cannot see how
  52. to tell Kermit the details of my modem. There is a reference
  53. in the book "Kermit 95", page 15, which says "...check that
  54. your modem and dialing properties are configured correctly
  55. in Windows". Sorry, but I have Windows NT and I am unaware
  56. of whether NT is interested in knowing about modems.

  58. I would be grateful for a few pointers.
